What Is MOSAIC?

The FAA’s Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) rule, effective July 22 2025, is the most significant update to LSA and pilot privileges in decades. Literally.

  • No More Weight Limits: Certified by stall speed (59 knots clean), not arbitrary weight.
  • Expanded Aircraft Features: Retractable gear, constant‑speed props, four seats, advanced avionics, electric/hybrid propulsion now legal.
  • Higher Performance: Cruise speeds up to 250 knots (was 120 knots).
  • Easier Ownership: Do your own maintenance with a 16-32 hour repairman course.
